CoP 3 - Tutorial 1 - Feedback

Feedback and Discussion

- How can design be used to elicit improvements in behaviour/learning theories.
- Looking at how environment affects learning within the different theories and how graphic design is a part of this.
- Looking at different ethnicities and genders.
- Constructivism, building on an existing understanding, using knowledge children already have of the world around them to build on new concepts and learn new things.
- For example using cakes, pizzas for fractions, using visual cues and elements to aid understanding.
- Visual representation, visual anchors.
- Looking specifically at Numeracy and Maths
- Constructivist theories, drill further down and explore these theories in more detail.
- Within the essay look at theories, the different people and takes on and within these theories, a broad and abstract understanding of these theories, and how these can seen, shown and used in specific types of lessons and the resources used within these, then relating them back to the theories discussed previously.
- Looking at specific visual artefacts, and theory in relation to visual things.
- For practical part looking at creating a lesson plan and designing visual pieces and resources which go hand in hand with this.

Next Steps

- Look further into cognitive and constructivist theories.
- Look more into lessons plans, resources used, specifically for numeracy.
- For next tutorial;

  • Structure for Essay
  • Working Document with title etc.
  • Sub headings
  • A framework to work from
  • Looking at introduction and conclusion
  • Firm idea and possible brief for practical project
- Look at learningtheories.com
